Dear Frances:-
Just a few lines to let you know I’m Okay. We are leaving sometime to-morrow. I’m so sorry I couldn’t see you next week-end. But thats the way it is.
I’m sending Onn. a telegram to-nite. So she’ll call you & you’ll know about it before you get this letter Please don’t sorry about me Franc. We don’t know where we are going. But I’ll be alright anyhow. Be sure & write me some letters & address them the same. They will be sent on wherever we are. And I’ll write to you.
I’m sending you some money ($10.00) for whatever you happen to need it for. And then it will come from the Govt. every month after that. Be sure & make use of it.
We are loading box cars to-day. So I’d better get some dinner so I’ll be able to get on parade after dinner. Hoping to hear from you
I Remain Your Loving Brother
Harry

Editor Note – Personal Letter to Mrs. Elton Newman – July 13, 1940
Harry mentions, “We are leaving sometime to-morrow, and loading box cars today,” an activity probably in preparation for deploying the Essex Scottish Regiment overseas, probably departing Camp Borden on Sunday, July 14, 1940.
