    October 19/40

    Dear Franc:-

    Well I wrote you a letter a couple days ago& then I received one from you the next morning. And was sure glad to get it.

    I have sort of a cold. But otherwise I’m fine. I’m glad you are all well. I am getting your mail okay Franc. Only it takes time you know.

    I received the six hundred cigs yesterday from you & La Verne. & I might say “Thanks a Million” I want to write La Verne too. & thank her for them. When you send them next time. I’d rather the winchesters if you can send them. But I should critizize critisize cuzz any kind is better than these limy cigs.

    Dear La Verne:-

    You can see by this that I have received the cigs.

    Thanks a million dear. I really enjoyed them & now that I’m down to the card I am returning it to you.

    Have had a bad cold this week, but am improving now.

    I will write a letter in a couple days when I feel better.

    I hope you are all well over there. Be sure & write whenever you have time. I will close for now

    Dear Franc:-

    Here it is after lights out & I’m sitting up alone writing to you. I have already written to Onn. & Eva & I couldn’t go to bed without writing you. After the four nice letters I received from you this morn.

    At last our mail came in & I got 14 letters How’s that for getting mail eh? I got your 4, 3 from Onn. 1 from Marg. and Charlie,1 from Wilbur and Gladys, 1 from Josephine Wride in Kingsville 1 from Dot Sweetman, 1 from Mildred Spence, 1 from Chip, & 1 from Pearl. & I was really tickled too. Just imagine going 2 weeks without any mail

    It has been a pretty nice Sun. The sun has shone all morning But it clouded up after-dinner & rained a little about three O’clock. It looks like it might get dark early & rain all night

    Dear Franc:-

    Well, how is everyone over there. I still have this rotten cold. & every time I cough, I get pains across my stomach. I went into the M.O. to-nite & he said it was from my cold & it would leave with the cold. But the cold isn’t leaving. It’s getting worse

    I told you about me going. On the provost course. So yesterday. They sent me over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police headquarters for an interview. They asked me if I would volunteer into the provost corps, if I passed the course & I said “yes”. So I don’t know what’ll happen They’ll probably call me when they need me.

    Dear Franc:-

    I received your thousand cigs yesterday. But haven’t got the parcel you sent with the razor blades in. I guess the fish must be showing with them, at the bottom of the ocean. Well Thanks a lot for the cigs Franc.

    I sent a parcel to you Franc. Yesterday! There is three xmas boxes in it. One for “Peg.” One for Marj. & Marion. & one for pearl & her sister. If I send them separate Franc. It would cost me a lot of money & sending the three in one won’t cost me much more than one would.
